Saturday night, I finally watched Frida. After watching all of the previews, I thought it was going to be lovey-dovey nonsense for two hours. I’m so glad I was wrong. I just have to say that if this movie doesn’t win the Oscar, there is no justice in the world.
We just got a storm come through from Thursday night to Saturday. The annoying part of it was that it wasn’t real rain. Just misting for the most part with periods of sprinkling. No oomph, just blah. For once, I would like to see it come down hardcore. Hopefully we get some more rain this season.
I love how when one drop of rain falls from the sky, all the news broadcasts here in So Cal go to “Storm Watch”. It is the hugest story in the news, and they devote about half of their broadcast to it. Anyhow, they had reporters go to Santa Barbara since it is usually the first place to get all of the rain in the viewing area. Looking at the pictures makes me miss the place a whole lot. I’m just picturing going to Edomasa and eating sushi all night long. Shit. I should probably get my ass up there pretty soon.
Fuck Youz Mr. Platypus!!!!
Getting to work at 6:00am is not a happy thing. Thank heavens I only have to do this for 2 days.
So LA Weekly has an interview with Jacques Derrida. I read through it and it seemed interesting enough just because it’s Derrida. It holds the same appeal as reading an interview with Kant or Dostoevsky if they were alive now. However, this doesn’t mean I actually like Derrida now. It’s just… nice.
Statistic: Peter Camejo had the best showing of any third party candidate for governor of California since 1934. Pretty damned cool!
On We Tread
I’m an election junkie. It’s such a thrill to watch the returns coming in and hearing commentary and all that junk. But I didn’t miss Gilmore Girls so there!
Bah. As you might notice (unless you’re viewing your friends page for this post) I made my journal red. I like red. That’s been my color for the past several months.
I’m going to start shopping for a computer this weekend. I don’t think I can last any longer without a fully functional machine at home. So in addition to the computer itself, I want a scanner and a big monitor. I think it’s time to splurge a little. And DSL. And my own domain name again.
So I voted this morning. Have you?
What’s there to say? I’m in pain. My back is killing me. I was barely mobile yesterday. It doesn’t hurt as much today, but I can still feel ouch. In the end, it’s all right since I got the new Pavement reissue of Slanted and Enchanted. I can’t wait until they do a reissue of Crooked Rain Crooked Rain. I *heart* that album.
It looks like Arial Sharon’s government in Israel is collapsing in front of our eyes. Being against war and terrorism, I am overjoyed with this development. I don’t know how such a criminal was given so much power, but it’s a relief that his reign is almost over. Hopefully the next prime minister will bring back the reforms Barak had started. Maybe, they’ll have another Rabin or Peres.
I just finished reading Catch 22. What a fucking great book. Now it’s on to Lipstick Traces by Greil Marcus and hopefully Dead Souls by Gogol. Hopefully.
