I Can’t Stop Talking

9-11 Let me just be really brief about this. When people can’t work out their differences without resorting to violence, that is pretty sad. When a person lies to get his/her way, that is sad. When a person’s lie results in the death of thousands of people, that is tragic. I cannot go through the day without cringing at the tributes around the country. “We won’t forget,” they exclaim. “Power with pride,” the bumper stickers shout out. Let’s stop with the idiotic cheers and sound bites that has driven a hole in our collective intelligence. Instead let’s remember what exactly it was that brought us to that moment. Why don’t we actually try to learn our history so we can avoid making the same mistakes? Football I know it’s hypocritical of me to be scathing of war yet love football so much. It just perpetuates the stupid jock mentality that America has come to embrace and be hated for: over-agressiveness, intolerance and parochialism. If you truly believe that, I’m sorry. There’s so much more to football than that. It’s like saying chess is a detriment to society since it is an emulation of war. (Actually it’s a detriment because it is a BAD emulation of war. Go is so much better.) Regardless this season of the NFL has started, and I am pumped. My Chicago Bears look absolutely dreadful again, but what else is new? That’s probably the only thing that can be guaranteed in football. Everything is a crapshoot lately. Whoever was great last season could tank this season (see the Oakland Raiders last year). Let’s just say I’m so stoked. (Read: I have no fucking life.) Addictions
