Ok. I have a couple of comments on what’s going on in the news. First off: Democrats. I have people whining at me about my refusal to vote Democrat. I do not want to support a candidate who doesn’t agree with me on what I feel is important. After all, isn’t that the point of a republic? Now everyone will yammer on and on about how, “America is no longer a republic/democracy blah blah blah.” Then stop voting. If you think everything is futile, then why do you give a shit who will be president? Then there is the argument that Bush is really bad and we need to get him out of office. I do agree with this, but if it’s so bad then why aren’t Democrats fighting more? Bush says, “I want to kill Iraqis,” Democrats say, “Sure!” Bush says, “I want money to kill more Iraqis,” Democrats say, “Sure!” Bush says, “I want to strip the rights of American citizens,” Democrats say, “Sure!” See the pattern? Let’s recall the reign of Mr. Clinton. He came in as the savior. “Gay rights for all,” he said. We got “Don’t ask don’t tell.” He said “Health insurance for all.” We got something so complicated, doing taxes became more appealing. He finally gave up and decided to be a carbon copy of the Republicans. The only person in that field of Democrats who is worth anything is Dennis Kucinich. If he isn’t nominated, then the Democrats will not have my vote. If Bush wins because of a “spoiler”, my conscience will be clear. I’ve said it before, until the Democrats grow a spine I will have no problems seeing their demise. Ok. Secondly, football. I’m hearing so many people complain that the SuperBowl will suck. True this will probably be a low-scoring game because of the lack of offense. But let’s face it: Defense wins championships. We’ve seen it happen for the last several years (Baltimore in 2000-1, New England in 2001-2, Tampa Bay in 2002-3). To me, defense makes games exciting. So to me, this should be a fascinating game.
