The College season is over yet the controversy remains. Big East Commissioner and BCS honcho Mike Tranghese conceded, “we made a mistake”. Damn skippy you did. After watching both the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl it was evident that the two teams that should have played in the championship game was USC and LSU. That’s what both the Writers (AP) and Coaches (USA Today/ESPN) polls said. But because we have to factor in the computer rankings in the BCS*, Oklahoma got in. Whatever. Although USC got only half the championship, everyone knows that if USC played LSU, SC would be the undisputed national champions. Fortunately, SC has a very young team which means the odds of them being #1 is very likely. As for the NFL playoffs, what a weekend. Absolutely fabulous games. Here are my picks for this weekend. As of now, I don’t know what the point spreads are so I can’t say which way I’ll bet.
  • Carolina Panthers at St Louis Rams. Call me crazy but I like Carolina in this game. If they played as flawless as they did against Dallas this weekend, they should be a very dangerous team like they were back in 1996.
  • Tennessee Titans at New England Patriots. It’s January and bone-chillingly cold in Boston. How can you not go with the Pats?
  • Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs. Indy’s running game is back, and they will shred the meager Chief run defense. This one will be a shoot-out, but I think Indy will be one play up over the Chiefs in the end.
  • Green Bay Packers at Philadelphia Eagles. I don’t like this game at all. There are so many intangibles to this game, I can’t make up my mind. The Eagles are well rested but are without Brian Westbrook their key playmaker. The Packers have played extremely emotional games as of late, but they have Brett Favre. Who knows? I say Eagles, but don’t hold me to it. So if my predictions are right, you will see Indy at New England for the AFC championship game and either Carolina at Philly or Green Bay at Carolina for the NFC game. Or who knows? I don’t! Tee hee. *One computer had Miami of Ohio ranked higher than USC!!!!!! Can I go home now?
