I Just Wanna Be Your Dog
Here are my version of the power rankings.
These have nothing to do with anything really, but since everybody else
is doing it, why can’t I?
1. Kansas City Chiefs (8-0). They are the only undefeated team in the
league and completely spanked Buffalo 35-5 Sunday night. Everyone was
questioning their last several wins since they were close games. But I
always say that the mark of a championship team is to win no matter
what. The team we have here could possibly go 16-0. My fingers are
crossed.
2. Minnesota Vikings (6-1). So they suffered a loss to the New York
Giants. So the holes in their pass defense were exposed. I have full
confidence any problems they have will be fixed for their home game
against NFC North rivals Green Bay. Besides the biggest weapon Green Bay
has is Ahman Green who will definitely be stuffed next week. Look for a
reinvigorated Vikings team this time next week.
3. Indianapolis Colts (6-1). Everyone knows Peyton Manning is an
incredible quarterback. The Achilles heel of this team has always been
the defense. Head Coach Tony Dungy has taken steps to strengthen the
defense turning this team into a championship caliber team. Who
remembers Jim Mora’s screaming press conferences after games in the 2001
season now?
4. Tennessee Titans (6-2). Steve McNair is probably the only QB in the
league right now who can give Peyton Manning a run for his money.
Although their running game has been negligible this season, they have
plenty of other offensive weapons to decimate other teams’ defenses.
Could we see Kansas City and Tennessee in the AFC Championships in
January?
5. Carolina Panthers (6-1). I’m not comfortable with this team. I know
the mantra is, “defenses win championships,” but at some point the
offense is going to have to step up. Their offense has scored fewer
points than the 3-5 49ers and 4-4 Bills. Their game at Houston is going
to be tougher than they think. Remember the Texans almost came out of
the first half of their game with the Colts with a lead. So anything can
happen.
6. St. Louis Rams (5-2). I don’t know how they did it, but they look
like the Rams of 1999-2001. After a dismal 2002 season, a quarterback
controversy and an injured Marshall Faulk they seem to be on the path to
the Superbowl. If they can play consistently, we will see them in the
postseason.
7. New England Patriots (6-2). Almost all of their starters are injured
and they have managed to win 4 games in a row to stand atop of the AFC
East. This goes to show what a good coaching staff can do for a team.
8. Miami Dolphins (5-2). They’ve played well most of this season with
the exception of their season opening loss to Houston. But as history
dictates, they will go through a slump towards the end of the season.
Now people have high hopes for Brian Griese in Miami, but I have severe
doubts. I remember the talk when Griese was in Denver, how he was
supposed to be the next John Elway. Miami: this Griese won’t save you
like his father did.
9. Seattle Seahawks (5-2). Like everyone else, I’m waiting for them to
prove themselves. And last weekend’s performance at Cincinnati was not
it. In reality, all they really need to do is fill up a couple of holes
on defense. This is one of those surprise teams. Let’s see how they do
the rest of the season.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3). For this spot, it was either Tampa or
Dallas, and seeing as how Tampa spanked Dallas I have to give it to
Tampa. They have a tough schedule ahead of them but have the talent to
pull out a win every week. Let’s just hope they don’t have any more
distractions of the field.
My dark horses to get post-season play are Cincinnati (3-4) and Green
Bay (3-4). Green Bay has not been performing well, but they might eke
out a wild card entry into the playoffs. Cincinnati, on the other hand,
is only a game behind Baltimore in the weak AFC North. If they play like
they have been the past several weeks, they could be playoff contenders.
Who would’ve thunk it?
I think I’m getting Parkinson’s. My employee noticed that my hands were
trembling. I had no idea. *shrugs* I guess I’m getting old. Bah!
