It looks like Kordell Stewart’s job in Chicago is in jeopardy. It’s a shame since I think he’s a decent quarterback. Part of the problem is the Bear’s offensive line. They need to do a good job blocking and pass protecting. The defense also has to do a better job of stopping the run and rushing the passer. They seriously need to go back to the basics. Where are my Bears of 2 seasons ago when they went 13-3?!!! When I hear the raves Michael Vick, Steve McNair and Donavon McNabb get, I can’t help but remember when Kordell Stewart took over as QB for the Steelers in place of Neil O’Donnell (who is now McNair’s back-up in Tennessee) back in 1995. The thought of QBs running for significant yardage was almost unheard of back then. And if I remember correctly, wasn’t he the rookie tight-end or wide-receiver at the time? So here are some of my picks for this weekend (as if anyone wanted to know):
  • Buffalo over Miami (at Miami): Buffalo has looked unbeatable the first two weeks. After completely shutting out New England and spanking Jacksonville, they look very reminiscent of the Bills of yore. Miami is good, but they don’t have the consistency (see Week 1’s Houston game) to pull a win over the Bills despite being at home.
  • Baltimore over San Diego (at SD): The Chargers look pitiful. Their defense sucks, their offense sucks and their special teams are unnoticable. Baltimore is going to have a field day running over the Chargers literally.
  • Oakland over Denver (at Denver, Monday night): Last year at week 10, the Raiders were on a 4 game losing streak heading into the Monday night game at Denver. In those four weeks, everyone was questioning the age of the Raiders and whether they had what it took to reach the playoffs. They ended up carving up the Broncos like a Thanksgiving turkey. The same thing is going to happen here. After their horrendous loss at Tennessee and their near loss to the Bungles (er… Bengals) at home, I think they are charged up to kill the Broncos. On top of that, Jake Plummer is a mediocre QB at best and Clinton Portis is injured. I hate the Raiders with a passion, but I’m being realistic. They’re going to pull out a win at Mile-High. Thankfully, the Bears aren’t playing this weekend. I don’t know how much more heartbreak I can take. Football aside, I think I’m going to have a full weekend lined up. I definitely want to hit Melrose and shop for shoes. Tonight I’m going to be out playing so it’ll be fun. My goal is to spend as little money as possible though so I have enough for the Radiohead show on Thursday.
