So I went a little overboard buying music today. I bought:

Albums to buy this weekend:

I used to go to this annually back in high school, so now I’m trying to do this again regularly. At the Hollywood Bowl on 8/1 and 8/2, they will have their annual Tchaikovsky Fireworks Spectacular. Who wants to go? I’m planning on buying the tickets sometime this week for the benches L-U. I have a pair of binoculars, so I don’t think it’s all that necessary to be up close. So how about it?

For those of you too lazy to click the link I provided, it will be the LA Philharmonic with Bramwll Tovey conducting and the USC Trojan Marching Band accompanying. The songs are Capriccio Italian, Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 and 1812 Overture (which is where the marching band and fireworks come into play).

Soundtrack of the Weekend: Fischerspooner. I’m actually tempted to do some photo shoots in that style. You know, kitschy, over-the-top, abrasive. Which means that I have to buy some MAC Cosmetics (not that I mind. I love makeup even though I don’t wear it very often).

Madd and I went to this club that was very boring. Bad DJ, bad hip-hop. I dubbed it the ugly club — people wanted to be pretentious but just couldn’t pull it off. Eh.

Oh my lordy I am so full and can’t do any work. I really want to take a nap or read or just be inert for several hours. Jambalaya is good for yr soul (although MY jambalaya is better). Can I just take a wee nap? Please? (Why am I being so incoherent?)

Plans for this weekend: nothing. I don’t wanna do anything. I just wanna stay home make mix CDs read books watch DVDs and sit on my ass making food from Trader Joes and trying to understand why I really like the band Xiu Xiu. Then I can probably snag a copy of Adobe Illustrator finally and get my ass to redesigning the graphics on my website.

But, as with all of my plans for absolute laziness, it never comes to fruition. Someone will make me get out of the house, and I will never be able to stop. But fucking dammit, I WILL stay home this weekend.

I was listening to Morning Edition on KCRW on my way to work. They had a story on the rise in volunteers in Hong Kong due to SARS. It was mostly a feel-good piece, but you know me: I have to be cynical about everything. Does it really take a deadly epidemic for businesspeople and other megakapitalists to get their heads out of their asses and start caring for the world in general? Being ever more cynical, once SARS becomes another faded memory to laugh at during dinner parties next summer, will the volunteers still be there or will it be business-as-usual?

I really do need to take a vacation.

I went to Borders after work today and bought the new Harper’s Magazine and Adbusters. The only reason I got the Adbusters was for the complimentary CD mixed by DJ Spooky (although for the price of the rag, I expect a bloody CD in every issue). There’s some really good stuff such as “The Pledge” written by Saul Williams and other artists/writers such as Allen Ginsberg, Ani DiFranco, Coldplay, Fugazi, Marshall McLuhan, Negativland, Sun Ra, and more. It’s a very good listen.
