Hours after the fury died down, there is still the question over where to rank that play in the annals of sports history.

Here is the play as narrated by Auburn play-by-play radio announcer Rod Bramblett (no relation):

What do you say to that?

I tend to be cautious when it comes to superlatives. I’ll elect to wait a while and let history dictate where this play ranks.

But speaking of rankings, here are the AP Rankings.

Rank Last Week School Record AP Rank Comments
1 2 Florida State 12-0, 8-0 ACC 1 Between Florida State, Ohio State and Auburn, it comes down to a thought experiment: who can beat whom on a neutral site as the teams are constituted now? Even though Florida State seemed very disinterested early on in the Swamp yesterday, when they turned on the switch they were back to their dominant self.
2 3 Auburn 11-1, 7-1 SEC 3 I don’t think Auburn could beat Florida State. I could be wrong. I thought UCLA would lose to USC. But beating Alabama is what vaults Auburn over Ohio State.
3 4 Ohio State 12-0, 8-0 Big Ten 2 They were one play away from getting their first loss in two years. And you feel a little bad seeing them celebrate at the end of the Iron Bowl and figure they would most likely be left out of the BCS Championship Game. Of course this is moot if Michigan State wins the Big Ten Championship Game next week.
4 1 Alabama 11-1, 7-1 SEC 4 Sorry Alabama. That was probably the worst game you played this season. But missing four field goals including that final fateful 57-yard attempt is just inexcusable. Actually Nick Saban calling the kicker for that 57-yard attempt was inexcusable.
5 5 Oklahoma State 10-1, 7-1 Big 12 6 A nice bye week for the Pokes to get ready for the Bedlam next week.
6 6 Missouri 11-1, 7-1 SEC 5 Mizzou beat A&M in the battle of former Big 12-ers, and they somehow won the SEC East. They’ll face Auburn in Atlanta next week.
7 7 Stanford 10-2, 7-2 Pac-12 7 With everything buzzing in college football, too bad no one saw Stanford beat Notre Dame.
8 8 Michigan State 11-1, 8-0 Big Ten 10 Sparty’s defense should be interesting to watch next week against Ohio State.
9 10 Baylor 10-1, 7-1 Big 12 9 That was a scare in Fort Worth for the Baptists against TCU. A win at home against Texas and a loss by Oklahoma State against Oklahoma, Baylor goes to the Fiesta Bowl.
10 NR Arizona State 10-2, 8-1 Pac-12 11 The Sun Devils will host the Pac-12 Championship Game next week against Stanford. It would be a great story if their head coach wasn’t such a fucking dickhead.
