There is something in this Los Angeles heat that stirs up feelings. Feeling that everyone around me is a certified homosexual. But I’m tired of these tired homos. I want a true fag – someone who won’t stand up for these stupid spectacle of gay pride parades. Quoth Guy Debord in The Society of the Spectacle (tr. Donald Nicholson-Smith),

“The whole life of those societies in which modern conditions of production prevail presents itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles. All that once was directly lived has become mere representation.” (Thesis 1, MIT Press, 1992).

I want to live real fucking life, that’s the life for me!

I knew some theater people back in Santa Barbara who wanted the spectacle to come back. My argument: it never left society. It’s pervasive like a fart in a car. One look at those garish Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals should prove that spectacle is alive and well in theater. Unfortunately, it’s what is bringing down the entire art.
